MAS wins 10 awards at National Cleaner Production Awards
MAS walked away with 10 top awards at the National Cleaner Production Awards held recently which recognised over 40 companies for their resource efficiency and waste reduction manufacturing.
“MAS has its own ambitious zero-waste goals for 2020 with a broader goal to value enhance all our waste by 2025. Winning these awards simply underlines our long-term commitment in environmental stewardship and the work we will continue to do in the years to come” says Sharika Senanayaka, Director of Environmental Sustainability for MAS.
The National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) started the Cleaner Production awards in 2007 to recognize and appreciate progressive enterprises that have voluntarily accepted cleaner production as a tool to increase their resource efficiency and at the same time contribute towards a cleaner environment.
The awards recognise industrial enterprises and service organisations who have worked to improve their production efficiency while at the same time contributing to the protection of the environment by eliminating or minimising their waste and emissions at operational stage by voluntarily adopting cleaner production and greener approaches.
This year NCPC Awards were held on 21st January 2019 at Waters Edge, Battaramulla with over 250 participants.
Criteria for Selection of Awards
The awards recognise industrial enterprises and service organisations who have worked to improve their production efficiency while at the same time contributing to the protection of the environment by eliminating or minimising their waste and emissions at operational stage by voluntarily adopting cleaner production and greener approaches.
The NCPC awards programme has extensively detailed environmental criteria. The structured method of evaluation is also unique in that it consists of desktop evaluations of applied companies, on-site evaluations by a team of evaluators and a final judgement made by a competent panel of judges. Companies undergo a highly objective evaluation conducted onsite before the awards are decided.
